This is a Shiboridashi kyusu (teapot) made by Masatoshi Ichino, a potter based in Tamba, one of the six oldest kilns in Japan. The rusty iron glaze, which is similar to thinly glazed yakishime, has a rustic texture that evokes the atmosphere of traditional Tamba ware. It is a thin and light kyusu, as only Mr. Ichino, who also produces many everyday use items and values ease of use, can produce. It has a capacity of about 100ml, so it is suitable for Chinese tea as well as sencha and gyokuro. We also have a matching yuzamashi in the same series.
