This white-glazed yuzamashi was made by Yukiko Saito of Shigetsugama, a potter and tea artist. Yuzamashi are used to cool water when brewing Sencha or Gyokuro.
The appeal of Saito's pottery lies in the generous and soft shapes, expressive glaze tones, and calm colors that are characteristic of her work, all created on the kick wheel.
The appropriate capacity is about 150 ml, so in addition to cooling water, it can also be used as a tea pitvher for Chinese tea or a sake pitcher.
