Zokoku-nuri is one of the traditional techniques of Kagawa lacquerware, a craft started by Tamakazi Zokoku in the late Edo period and continued to the present day. It is characterized by a unique matte finish created by sprinkling pollen on lacquer. The solid wood of horse chestnut is hollowed out, and the chisel marks rhythmically applied to the surface create a contrast. Nowadays, there are few wood craftsmen who handle chisels, so this is a valuable item. The reverse side is finished with urushi lacquer. How about using it as a tea tray for one person, a sake tray, or a light tray?
