This rectangular tray is made in a workshop that follows the tradition of Kagawa lacquerware, a traditional craft of Kagawa that has been around since the late Edo period, and its rustic appeal makes use of chisel marks. It is finished using the urushi lacquering technique, in which solid chestnut wood is hollowed out and lacquer is rubbed in and wiped off repeatedly. Despite using natural lacquer, it is reasonably priced. Natural lacquer is far more durable than cheap urethane paint or lacquer-like paint, and can be used for a long time. It is a useful size not only as a sencha tray, but also as a single bowl tray. It will be delivered in a specially made paper box.
