This tray is carved out of solid chestnut wood. It was produced at a woodworking studio in Tendo City, Yamagata Prefecture, which is famous for its wooden furniture. The traditional shape of the tray, called "Sumi-iri", has a calm and old-fashioned atmosphere, and is suitable for both Japanese and Western style trays.
The finish is glass coated. It is a type of paint that penetrates into the wood and protects it from water without creating a film on the surface like urethane paint or varnish.
With its moderate size of 27 cm square, it can be used for various purposes such as a light tray, a carrying tray, or a folding tray, in addition to a tea tray.
