This is a Houhin Kyusu made by Minoru Hara who has a kiln in Sumiyama, Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture,Japan. The Houhin Kyusu is a traditional handleless teapot used in the Japanese tea ceremony to brew high-quality green tea such as Gyokuro.
Nanban-de is a finish using ancient Asian roots and is used to make teapots, water jugs and other tea utensils. The unsophisticated expression of unglazed pottery has been loved by tea master in the past. The unglazed texture reminiscent of soil has a modest yet unique presence.
The inside of the main body is coated with transparent glaze to preserve the delicate flavor of tea, and the brush marks by Kohiki are applied to make the tea leaves stand out. The tea strainer is made by hand one by one with intricate holes.
