
This is a "Sumi-iri "wood tray carved out of solid chestnut wood. It was produced at a woodworking studio in Tendo City, Yamagata Prefecture, which is famous for its wooden furniture. The traditional shape of the tray, called "Sumi-iri", has a calm and old-fashioned atmosphere, and is suitable for both Japanese and Western style trays. The tray is finished in black-brown oil to bring out the expression of chestnut wood.
With its moderate size of 27cm square, it can be used for various purposes, such as a light tray or a carrying tray, in addition to a tea tray.
