This is a Bizen teabowl by Bizen-based ceramic artist Eri Sano. Using Bizen rice paddy soil and mountain soil, she fires unglazed in a cave kiln that inherits the history of Bizen ware, which has its roots in ancient times, using pine trees and mountain bushes as firewood.

The richness of the scenery produced by the fire and the clay is fused with a modern sensibility to create a teabowl that is unique to Sano's work.

Background
Studied tea ceremony while working in architecture, interior design and space design in San Francisco, U.S.A. Moved to Ibe, Bizen to study Bizen Pottery.
Built a small anagama kiln with friends in a mountain village with terraced rice paddies. Longing for the traditional way of pottery making, She enjoys nature (soil, water, and trees) and spending time with nature and living creatures in the fields and mountains while making pottery.
